The first school in Newtown, Parish of Kilcock and Newtown, was built after the penal years and the first teacher was a Mr Mc Donald. The pupils were taught in what is now Newtown Hall. It was a two story building at that time and was heated by a large open fire. At that time the pupils brought a sod of turf to school with them each morning. They paid one penny per week for their education. Teresa Brayton taught in Newtown School around the 1890s. She is a famous writer who wrote the song The Old Bog Road.

The original part of the school was built in 1962. It was a two roomed building then. In 2020 an extension was opened with four new classrooms.

New Building

The new building started in March 2020 and paused during Covid lockdown.

Four new classrooms and two special education rooms have been built. All the pupils have settled into these large spacious room, well equipped with the latest large screen Promethean ActivBoard Touch.

New yard space and a soft play area have been added. The old heating system has been replaced. The landscaping and planting of new grass was carried out recently.

We have two prefab buildings which include two classrooms, a sensory room and an OT room. These prefabs will be replaced in the near future with a permanent SEN base which will comprise of two Autism classrooms, a living skills room as well as new OT and Sensory rooms. We are looking forward to work commencing on this project over the coming months.
