Our Mission
At Newtown National School, we strive to provide a holistic education that prepares our students for success in the modern world. Our mission is to foster a love of learning and a commitment to excellence in every student.
Our History
The first school as built after the penal years and the first teacher was a Mr Mc Donald. The pupils were taught in what is now Newtown Hall. It was a two story building at that time and was heated by a large open fire. At that time the pupils brought a sod of turf to school with them each morning. They paid one penny per week for their education. Teresa Brayton taught in Newtown School around the 1890s. She is a famous writer who wrote the song The Old Bog Road.
The current school was built in 1962. It was a two roomed building then. In 2020 an extension was opened with four new classrooms.

Newtown NS
Newtown National School relies heavily on the generosity of parents and the wider community to support the continued development of our students and the school environment. While government funding helps cover basic needs, many of our educational programs, extracurricular activities, and facility improvements are only possible through donations.
Your support allows us to provide enriched learning experiences, up-to-date resources, and a safe, inspiring space for every child to grow and thrive. We kindly ask you to consider making a contribution—no matter the size, every donation makes a meaningful difference.

Building
The current school building was originally built in 1962 and was extensively refurbished in 2021. We foster a child centered approach to learning and all staff work hard to ensure the children have positive school experiences.
The polytunnel beside the school acts as a space for the children to visit allowing them time to think, talk or read.
Adjacent to this is the Church of the Nativity and Newtown Hall where we perform our plays at Christmas.
